Abstract

Blood glucose levels are regulated by the hormone insulin, which plays a crucial role in maintaining metabolic balance. Disruption in insulin production or function can lead to an increase in blood glucose levels, a condition known as hyperglycemia. Hyperglycemia is defined as an elevation of blood glucose levels above normal, which may result in serious complications if left uncontrolled. One of the approaches to manage this condition is the utilization of traditional medicinal plants. Brotowali leaves (Tinospora crispa L.) contain active compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids, and tannins, which have potential antihyperglycemic properties. Differences in extraction methods may affect the composition of these active compounds and consequently influence their effectiveness. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of maceration and soxhletation extraction methods of brotowali leaves (Tinospora crispa L.) in reducing blood glucose levels in male mice (Mus musculus). The research employed an experimental method using a pretest-posttest control group design. The results showed that the average reduction in blood glucose levels was 59.33 mg/dL for the maceration method and 60.33 mg/dL for the soxhletation method. Statistical analysis indicated a significant difference among the test groups, as demonstrated by the One Way ANOVA test with a significance value (Sig.) < 0.05, further supported by the Tukey post hoc test.
